PRACTICE DESCRIPTION

The former Director of Legal Services of the Texas Municipal League, Monte left TML in 2002 and in 2007 founded Akers & Akers. During his eleven years at TML, Mr. Akers became well-known to most Texas cities through conferences, speeches, educational training sessions, publications, legislative advocacy, and literally thousands of phone inquiries from City officials.

Prior to TML, Monte was a senior attorney with the law firms of Hutcheson & Grundy, and Hooper & Haag, where he gained experience representing municipal utility districts. Monte has also been an attorney for the Dow Chemical Company, and he began his legal career as an assistant general counsel for the Texas Water Rights Commission (now the “Texas Commission on Environmental Quality”).

Monte was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1976, and is a graduate of the University Of Houston College Of Law and the University of Texas at Arlington. He provides general municipal law and legislative services to cities of all sizes and has particular expertise in water, environmental, utility, economic development, home rule charter, and telecommunications law issues.

He is a frequent speaker at local, state, and national conferences, is a former Adjunct Professor at Texas State University. He is a frequent speaker at state and national conferences, a former Adjunct Professor for Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) University.

Monte is the husband of Patty Akers, the father of Nathan Akers and Megan Akers, and the grandfather of Madison Marie Akers and Harper Channing Akers.
